Seraphina treats Alistair's lightning wound with glowing green medicine while recalling five years of quiet service. She brings him a secret dispatch confirming Princess Rowena's arrival from Valemont. Alistair announces he will marry Rowena to secure winter food supplies, demanding Seraphina stay as his concubine. Seraphina refuses his terms and walks out into the snow, where kneeling soldiers address her as royal family.
Seraphina puts glowing green medicine onto the lightning injury on Alistair's back. While caring for him, she remembers five years of constant sacrifice. She realizes the Grand Duke considers her an obedient hound instead of a person he truly loves.
Alistair straps on his battle armor while Seraphina brings him a confidential message. The letter reports that Princess Rowena and Valemont representatives have reached the stronghold. Alistair states the upcoming royal wedding is strictly needed to obtain grain for the cold months.
Inside the library, Alistair insists that Seraphina must continue as his lover under their magical agreement while Rowena becomes Duchess. Seraphina pushes him away and terminates their connection. Even though Alistair calls her a defenseless orphan, she exits the fortress.
Seraphina walks across the frozen field in a dark cloak. A bearded knight in full armor and multiple soldiers drop to the ground before her. The warrior calls her Your Highness and urges her to journey back to House Sangreal immediately.
“This is an affair of state. Nothing more.”
“Since Your Grace means to take a new duchess, whatever passed between us ends here.”
“Then watch, Your Grace. See if I die beyond these walls.”
“Your Highness. Five years ago, you chose him. Those five years are over. It's time you choose yourself. Please return to House Sangreal at once.”
Seraphina walks out into the falling snow, leaving Alistair and the castle behind. Armored guards and a bearded knight drop to their knees and call her Your Highness. Will Seraphina return to House Sangreal with her loyal warriors, or will Alistair find a way to enforce their magical contract and keep her under his control?
