Episode: 3
Sage discovers that the dresses left in her room were deliberately ordered too small, so she wears her own clothes. Walking the halls, she finds Jasper and Layla tucked away in empty servant quarters while Tristan has a luxury bedroom. Near the stairs, Tristan attacks Layla for defending her. Sage drives him away and comforts the child. At breakfast, Corinne has the maid hand Sage moldy bread.
Sage checks the garments hanging in her wardrobe and sees that each one is cut too small. An attendant sneers at her weight. Sage brushes off the insult, slips into her own dark dress, and steps out into the hallway.
Sage explores the estate hallways. She finds Jasper and Layla living in tiny, unfurnished rooms by the back entrance. Meanwhile, Corinne's son Tristan plays in a huge room filled with expensive toys. Sage observes how differently the children are treated.
Tristan confronts Layla by the staircase and orders her to demean Sage. Layla stands up for her stepmother, so Tristan violently pushes her to the floor. Sage intervenes, scares the boy away, and holds the weeping girl in her arms.
Corinne and Nonna gather in the dining room to eat fine bread, eggs, and caviar. Sage sits down and mentions she plans to eat less. Corinne signals the maid, who serves Sage a rotten slice of bread covered in green mold.
“We ordered your clothes in the usual size, ma'am. We didn't expect you to be so... full-figured.”
“You really think she's your mother? Have you seen her? She's a fat pig. No normal person wants a pig for a mother.”
“She's not! Don't call her that!”
“Since you're dieting, no need to waste good food. This is plenty. Consider it our support—no hard feelings.”
Corinne sits back with a smirk after serving Sage spoiled bread, daring her to cause a scene in front of Nonna. Sage stares down at the plate without shrinking back. Will Sage quietly swallow Corinne's cruel insult, or will she immediately strike back against her new in-laws at the breakfast table?
