Hank enters the home study with a glass of milk and asks Vanessa for fifty thousand dollars for vacation expenses. He graciously permits Vanessa to purchase a Cartier necklace with her own money. Vanessa points out that she pays the mortgage, the groceries, and every single bill while Hank has not sold one page of writing in five years. Hank loses his temper and defends Lily again. Vanessa refuses to back down. She announces that Hank and his family will not get another cent from her, just as his mother storms into the room.
