Hazel Whitmore sits alone at the cliffside estate wedding banquet. Serena walks up to the stage microphone and tells the whole room that Hazel works as an eighteen-dollar barista without a college degree. Serena asks single guests to consider her sister. Two men approach Hazel, but Hazel turns them down. Mrs. Whitmore, Serena, and Julian Ashford scold Hazel. Mrs. Whitmore yells at Hazel to leave.
Hazel sits alone at a banquet table inside the cliffside estate venue. Nearby, members of the Whitmore family get ready to introduce themselves to the Ashford family. Hazel watches the lively room as guests mingle around the decorated hall.
Serena grabs the microphone on the stage in front of all the banquet guests. She loudly claims Hazel has only a high school education and earns eighteen dollars an hour as a barista. Serena then invites eligible single men to approach her sister.
A supermarket supervisor and a insurance salesman walk up to Hazel's table to introduce themselves. Hazel refuses to participate in Serena's public arrangement. She stands her ground and firmly turns both men down in front of everyone.
Mrs. Whitmore, Serena, and Julian Ashford surround Hazel and blame her for creating trouble. They berate Hazel for turning down the suitors. Nearby banquet guests begin whispering and gossiping about Hazel's refusal to cooperate with her family.
Mrs. Whitmore loses her temper completely with Hazel. She jabs her finger directly in Hazel's face before the entire room. She screams at Hazel for supposedly ruining Serena's wedding day and demands that Hazel leave the venue right away.
“Hazel Whitmore is twenty-eight years old. She has a high school education and currently works as a barista in New York for eighteen dollars an hour.”
“I'm not interested in being matched with anyone like this.”
“Why cause a scene in front of everyone?”
“Today is Serena's wedding. Do you have to ruin it for her? Get out!”
The episode ends with Mrs. Whitmore pointing directly in Hazel's face and screaming at her to leave the banquet hall. Hazel stands her ground under the gaze of all the whispering guests. Will Hazel walk out of the cliffside venue, or will she confront her family before the Ashford patriarch arrives?
