Near a magnolia tree on the sidewalk, Eileen pushes Bridget to leave him, promising support despite Kevin's death threats.
Eileen sits with Bridget in the hospital examination room while a doctor reviews Bridget's X-ray results. The scan confirms a fractured rib. When the physician questions the injury, Bridget avoids the truth and claims she suffered a fall at home.

“Where's the compensation money? Did Kevin take it?”
“Mom, I'm scared. If I divorce him, he says he'll kill all of us.”
