Morris throws a tantrum, calling Talen a liar in his thoughts and burning his bed canopy with fire. Royal musicians fail to calm him with shell lutes, so Seraya sends everyone away. Nyla demands more sleeping powder, but Seraya explains Morris is afraid of waking up alone. Seraya dims the lights and wraps Morris in Talen's cape. She persuades Talen to stay and tell a bedtime story.
Seraya attempts to calm Morris in his underwater bedchamber. The infant's inner voice shouts in anger and calls Talen a liar. Morris slaps his tail against the bed and shoots a pillar of fire straight into his bed canopy, setting it ablaze.
Merfolk musicians sit in a line and strum shell lutes to put the cub to sleep. Seraya steps forward and tells Talen not to force the young prince. She then orders all the attendants out of the bedroom.
Nyla insists palace protocol requires more sleep-inducing seaweed powder before the Hundred-Day Tide Ceremony. Seraya rejects the idea. She states a ten-month-old infant should not take drugs and only fears waking up isolated in the dark.
Seraya takes Talen's red cape and wraps it around the upset baby. She walks over to the coral chandelier and dims its light. The room darkens, creating a quiet space for the infant to rest.
Seraya urges Talen to stay overnight to rebuild the infant's trust. Talen mentions his three border battle reports, but he yields to her advice. The Sea King sits beside Morris's bed and asks Seraya for guidance.
Seraya tells Talen to tell the baby a bedtime story. When Talen admits he does not know how to tell one, Seraya teases the powerful ruler. She tells him to speak and just say anything that comes to mind.
“Not sleeping! Go away, Talen! Big liar!”
“The royal protocols clearly state that the dose of sleep-inducing seaweed powder should be increased!”
“Every night you lock him in here all alone. Every time he opens his eyes, everyone he knows is gone. Of course he's afraid to sleep.”
“Just tell me what to do.”
“So even the mighty Sea King who strikes fear across the deep has something he can't do? Just say anything.”
Seraya teases Talen for not knowing how to tell a bedtime story and instructs him to say anything. She locks eyes with the intimidating king as he sits beside the baby. Will Talen find the right words to comfort his son, or will Morris wake up and reject his father again?
