Mrs. Calloway serves fresh pancakes to Mara, Sophie, and Kieran. She warmly tells Mara to stay for as long as she needs. Kieran sits opposite Mara and stares at her in complete silence, leaving Mara feeling visibly nervous.
Mrs. Calloway asks Kieran if he called the figure skater she introduced to him. Kieran displays zero interest in the subject. When his mother questions his interest in women, Sophie teases him, saying the girl he wants likes playing games.
Kieran addresses Mara Ellis by her full name. He directly asks why she looks guilty and whether she did something secret. Sophie points out that Kieran remembered Mara's name after hearing it only once. Kieran gives Mara a knowing smirk.
“Did you call the figure skater I introduced you to?”
“He's definitely interested in women. His love life is just tragic. The one he wants likes playing games.”
“Mara Ellis. Why do you look guilty? Did you do something you don't want anyone here to know about?”
“I only told you her name once, and you remembered it. That's new.”
Sophie points out that Kieran never remembers women's names after hearing them once. Kieran maintains eye contact with Mara and gives her an observant, knowing smirk while Mara sits in terror.
