Bennett comforts Adeline inside his room as she cries. He reminds her the Drawing Rite takes place in three days, giving her the choice to leave with the Wintergrove delegation. Adeline walks outside and finds Silas holding a yellow wildflower. She remembers Mira putting that flower on him. Silas protects the bloom and coldly informs Adeline that he will no longer join her hunts or missions.
Bennett stays beside Adeline inside his quarters while she weeps. He explains that the Drawing Rite occurs in three days. She can choose to sign her name and travel north with the Wintergrove delegation, but urges her to consider it carefully.
Adeline exits Bennett's quarters into the night air. She walks onto the wooden village porch and stops. Silas stands there leaning against a wooden pillar. He quietly holds a yellow wildflower in his hand as she looks at him.
Adeline remembers an outdoor moment from the pack's Hunting Festival. She pictures Mira placing the exact same yellow wildflower behind Silas's ear. Silas gazed affectionately at Mira instead of focusing on anyone else during the celebration.
Silas speaks to Adeline as she passes him along the trail. He carefully shields the blossom from the night wind. When Adeline confronts him, Silas announces he will not accompany her on hunts or missions, then walks toward Mira's quarters.
“The Drawing Rite is in three days. If you sign your name, the Wintergrove delegation will take you north before the first winter storm hits. Think it through. When you decide, come back to me.”
“No, Adeline. I came to tell you... I won't be joining your hunts or missions anymore.”
Silas turns his back on Adeline and walks away into the night toward Mira's quarters. Adeline stands completely abandoned on the dark path, sobbing over the loss of her former protector. Will Adeline sign her name at the Drawing Rite in three days and leave her pack behind forever?
