Episode: 2
Martha Conway examines wet nurse applicants and hires both Iris Mercer and Seraphina Sinclair. In the nursery, baby Jax cries until Seraphina calms him down, prompting Elena Thorne to choose her as the main nurse. A jealous Iris slices Seraphina's shirt with scissors and accuses her of seduction, leading Elena to fire her. When Iris shoves Seraphina out a high window, Elias Thorne catches her in the courtyard below.
Martha Conway inspects each candidate strictly and turns away multiple women. Seraphina stands in line and remembers her husband dying in a car wreck on the day she gave birth. She needs this job to survive.
Martha gives Iris Mercer a job without any testing. Then Martha checks Seraphina, marvels at her milk supply, and hires her immediately. Iris glares with open jealousy as Martha praises Seraphina's natural gift for nursing.
Baby Jax wails loudly, leaving Elena Thorne stressed and desperate. Iris tries to soothe him and fails completely. Seraphina takes the crying infant into her arms, and he instantly giggles. Elena names Seraphina the official wet nurse.
Iris secretly cuts the back of Seraphina's blouse with scissors, making it pop open. She tells Elena that Seraphina wants to seduce Mr. Thorne. Elena believes the accusation and tells Seraphina she is fired on the spot.
Elias Thorne pulls up to the mansion in his Bentley. His assistant admits they cannot find any new leads on the woman from the beach. Elias refuses to give up and orders him to keep searching.
Iris pushes Seraphina out of the high window. In the courtyard below, Elias spots her falling through the air. He sprints across the stones, catches Seraphina in his arms, and they recognize each other on the spot.
“Twenty years in this business, and I've never seen anyone so naturally suited for nursing. You were born to be a wet nurse. You're hired.”
“Mr. Thorne has never been comfortable around women, let alone women who try to seduce him.”
“Now get lost, you bitch!”
“It's you?”
Elias catches Seraphina right before she hits the courtyard ground. They lock eyes, and both immediately recognize each other from their encounter on the beach. Now that Elias has found his savior, will he step in to stop Elena from firing her, or will Iris Mercer get away with shoving Seraphina out the window?
