Episode: 1
An attending doctor checks the injured Lucía Navarro and leaves after offering condolences. Sofía Navarro tells their mother that Lucía fell down the stairs alone, and the mother calls Lucía a disgrace. Lucía wakes up and grips Sofía's wrist. When the mother attempts to gouge Lucía's eyes with a scalpel, Lucía overpowers her. Flooded with memories of Sofía pushing her down the stairs, Lucía cuts Sofía's face and leaves the room.
The attending doctor finishes checking a scarred Lucía Navarro in her hospital bed. He tells her family that her severe head injuries cannot be helped. After offering his quick condolences to the mother and daughter, he steps out of the room.
Sofía frantically claims to her mother that Lucía fell down the steps completely on her own. The mother listens without sorrow. She responds that having Lucía dead is better than having her around as an ugly family disgrace.
As Sofía and her mother turn to leave, Lucía opens her eyes and locks her fingers around Sofía's wrist. The mother assumes Lucía simply died with her eyes open and grabs a nearby scalpel to gouge out her daughter's eyes.
Lucía seizes her mother's wrist, twists away the scalpel, and forces the woman down against the mattress. Lucía demands to know who sent her. When the woman insists she is her mother, Lucía coldly replies that she is an orphan.
A sharp headache hits Lucía as past events return to her mind. She remembers standing on the staircase while Sofía shouted insults at her for stealing a man. The memory ends with Sofía pushing her down the steps to her death.
Lucía presses the scalpel against her mother's neck as a warning. She then flings the blade past Sofía, slicing Sofía's cheek. Lucía walks out into the hallway while Sofía grips her bleeding face with furious hatred in her eyes.
“The patient has severe head injuries, and there's nothing we can do. My condolences.”
“Better that ugly girl is dead than living as a disgrace.”
“Gouge her eyes out.”
“I'll make you wish you were dead.”
Lucía walks out of the hospital room into the hallway. Behind her, Sofía clutches her sliced, bleeding cheek and swears to make Lucía regret surviving. Where will Lucía go now that she has abandoned her abusive family, and how far will Sofía go to get revenge for her scarred face?
