Selinda Houston orders the doctor to drain three-year-old Luna dry to save her injured brother Ryan. Guards dump Luna by a desert road. Cleaner Gray Evans spots the girl in the grass, checks her pulse, and takes her to the hospital. He gives her the name Vera. Eighteen years later, Gray is ill. Vera enters the Houston Holdings lobby hoping to land a job for his medicine money. She bumps into Ryan Houston, spills coffee across his clothes, and faces his sudden anger.
