Episode 3 recap: On Her Knees

Ryan shows his mother the bite mark on his wrist. Mrs. Houston tells Vera to kneel down and wipe the coffee from Ryan's shoes. Vera refuses, so a guard slaps her face. Security drags in Vera's adoptive father. When Ryan threatens to break his legs, the old man asks to take the punishment instead. Mrs. Houston coldly orders the guard to strike. Vera breaks down, agrees to submit, and lowers her forehead to the marble floor before Ryan to save her dad.
