Julian Vale teaches his art class and dismisses a student’s gift. Back at the boarding house, he gets help from Evan Cole for a finger injury. Evan later notices blood dripping from Julian’s arm during the night. At dinner, Julian eats raw meat and urges Evan to join him. Evan eventually sneaks down to the basement, finding a heavy metal door smeared with fresh blood.
Julian Vale gives an art lecture to a room full of admiring students. When class ends, a student approaches him with a gift. Julian takes the offering but immediately drops it into a hallway trash can.
Dolores Keane greets Julian Vale as he enters the boarding house. She reminds him about their scheduled Sunday dinner. Julian acknowledges her greeting and proceeds to walk up the stairs toward his room.
Evan Cole notices blood on Julian Vale’s finger and bandages it. Julian spots a rabbit Evan recently rescued and bandaged. Julian tells Evan to feed the animal well and suggests they should be great friends.
Julian Vale sits in a hidden anatomical workshop. He listens to music playing on a gramophone. He works on dissecting a human body placed on a slab, surrounded by various preservation vessels.
Evan Cole wakes up after hearing noises and checks the hallway outside Julian Vale’s door. Julian invites him inside. Evan notices fresh blood dripping from Julian’s arm onto the floor and quickly leaves.
During Sunday dinner, Julian Vale eats thin slices of raw meat. He insists that Evan Cole try some of the meat, claiming that they are the same kind of person.
Evan Cole walks down into the dark basement hallway. He approaches a heavy, latched metal door. The surface of the door is marked with streaks of fresh blood.
“Your room or mine, my friend? Yours is closer.”
“Patching people up is kind of my thing.”
“Paint. Come in, my friend.”
“Try it, my friend. Fresh. Cut this morning.”
“You watch the way I work, I watch the way you watch. You and I, Evan. Same kind. You'll see.”
Evan stares at the bloodstained metal door in the basement. He reaches his hand toward the metal latch, ready to open it. The episode ends as he makes contact with the door, leaving us to wonder what gruesome secret lies on the other side of that locked entrance.
