Episode: 8
Julian hands Evan a torn farewell note in the hallway, claiming his girlfriend left it behind. Evan searches the town docks and hotels with her photograph but finds no leads. Down in the secret cellar, Julian tortures the bound woman, cuts her hair for specimen jar nine, and sets his vulture on her wounds. Later that night, Evan sits at his bedroom desk and spots a hidden distress message inside the note.
Julian approaches Evan in the hallway and hands him a torn letter. He claims Evan's girlfriend dropped it off at the front desk. Julian feigns sympathy and tells the distraught writer to choose his own timing.
Evan heads across town to find answers about the disappearance. He carries her photograph to ferry ticket clerks, a dock worker, and a hotel receptionist. Nobody recognizes the picture, leaving Evan without any useful clues along his route.
Julian visits Evan's bound girlfriend in the underground cellar. Angered that Evan refused him, Julian cuts off her ponytail for specimen jar nine. He clips her bloody nails, smears blood onto her collarbones, and photographs the final arrangement.
Evan wanders down a dim waterfront street by himself in the evening. He pauses in front of a building and stares up toward a lit window above, completely unaware of what is happening under the house.
Julian pulls on black gloves and commands his perched vulture to eat. The bird pecks at the captive woman's open wounds. Afterward, Julian walks to the washroom sink, cleans his hands under water, and mutters to himself.
Back in his bedroom, Evan sits at his desk beneath a glowing lamp. He examines the torn farewell note very closely. Upon reading the wording carefully, he uncovers an altered distress message hidden inside the sentences.
“She left this at the front desk. I'm so sorry, my friend.”
“He said no to me today. Do you know how long it's been since anyone said no to me?”
“Nobody says no.”
The episode ends in Evan's bedroom as he decodes the torn farewell note under his desk lamp. He realizes the letter conceals a secret cry for help from his girlfriend. Will Evan figure out that Julian is holding her captive downstairs before the artist finishes his gruesome plans?
