Episode: 6
Theron makes Kyle pull his royal coach along the city road. Kyle remembers the slave camp, where horned prisoners ridiculed him for landing in the dirt. Theron flogs him repeatedly to make him plead, but Kyle stays completely silent under the blows. An old peasant woman steps forward and grips the barbed lash. Kyle warns his brother to leave her alone. Later that night, Varic finds Kyle chained in the yard.
Kyle strains under harness straps as he pulls Theron's carriage along the dirt road. In a brief memory, other horned demon prisoners laugh at his arrival. They jeer at a former prince walking through the mud.
Theron lashes Kyle with a barbed whip and orders him to weep and plead. Kyle refuses to give him any satisfaction. An elderly peasant woman rushes forward and grips the weapon, slicing open her bare palms.
Kyle turns on Theron and promises retaliation if he touches the old woman. Theron grows frightened by his brother's glare. He scrambles back inside the carriage and tells the driver to pull away immediately.
Night falls over the prison yard, where guards bind Kyle to a stone column with thick chains. Varic walks up with his staff. He looks at Kyle's face and recognizes the features of Elena, Kyle's mother.
“Cry. Beg. Give me something.”
“You're not worth the sound.”
“Touch her, and I forget I'm a slave.”
“Same jaw, same stubborn chin. Elena, your boy made it this far.”
Kyle hangs bound in heavy iron chains against a stone pillar in the cold night courtyard. The scarred elder Varic steps forward, speaking aloud to Kyle's mother about how far her son has survived. Why has this former commander come looking for Kyle in the dark, and what does he want with Elena's enslaved son?
