High in a stormy tower, Vespera takes a glowing sword from a sealed platform and leaps down to find its owner. She lands before Maeve Calder and pushes the weapon into her hands, causing it to bond with Maeve. Helena steps in, but Vespera adjusts Maeve's grip and flies off. After calculating the sword's sale value, Maeve gets engulfed by bright light and wakes up with the blade in her bed.
Vespera stands in a stormy, chained tower high in the clouds. She frees a glowing ancient sword from a sealed platform. Holding the weapon, she leaps down toward the realm below to locate its true owner.
Vespera drops from a beam of light on a rocky plain at sunset. She forces Maeve Calder to touch the sword, bonding it to her. Helena objects that Maeve cannot hold it. Vespera fixes Maeve's grip, commands her to train, and takes flight.
Maeve examines the blade on the plain and calculates how much gold it can fetch. Helena reaches toward her with an alarmed expression. A sudden blinding flash consumes both of them before Maeve can finish her thought.
Maeve mutters in her sleep and wakes up in her bedroom, assuming the meeting was a dream. She looks down and spots the glowing sword resting next to her. Nell enters the room, drops her basin, and demands an explanation.
“At last. I found your sword. Now I'll find you.”
“You have the wrong woman. I don't duel. Nell handles the rats in my shop.”
“She can't fight you. She doesn't even know how to hold it.”
“Maeve, where did you get that?”
Maeve sits frozen in bed next to a glowing, bonded relic she believed was only part of a dream. Nell stares at the weapon across the floor after dropping her basin. How will Maeve explain the magical blade to her companion, and what will she do now that the sword is bound to her?
