Guards parade Julian through hostile crowds in chains. Maeve Calder visits the council chamber to examine tactical maps while leaders debate his arrest. When the guard prepares a cleansing volley against the lower city, Maeve and Nell rescue Julian from his prisoner wagon. They rush to the inner gate, but find Julian's authority revoked. Maeve and Julian storm the ramparts, yet artillery crews fire flaming projectiles across the sky anyway.
Angry crowds gather in the streets as guards lead a shackled Julian forward as a traitor. Maeve and Nell stand in the crowd watching. Julian spots Maeve among the onlookers and tells her not to get arrested as well.
Inside the council chamber, nobles and city commanders argue about the missing leadership caused by Julian's sudden arrest. Maeve walks inside unnoticed during the confusion and leans over the tactical maps to study the layout of the city.
A city guard officer orders the wall crews to prepare a cleansing volley against the lower city. Down below, Maeve flips through the pages of a book. She decides to free Julian before making her way toward the family chapel.
Maeve and Nell ambush the transport convoy along the street. Maeve reaches the prisoner wagon, unlocks Julian's iron cage, and pulls him out. The trio quickly climb aboard a waiting horse cart and speed away from the pursuing guards.
The horse cart reaches the inner city gate, but heavy bars block the exit. Julian presses his official authority sigil against the gate lock. The guards refuse to open the passage, declaring that his command was frozen following his arrest.
Maeve and Julian battle past city guards on the stone staircase to reach the ramparts and stop the ballistas. Julian tackles the hornblower to ground the signal, but artillery operators launch a volley of flaming projectiles into the sky anyway.
“Don't get yourself arrested too.”
“Your authority was frozen after your arrest.”
“Then we take the wall.”
“Then arrest me again after you stop it. Hold!”
The siege engines on the wall fire their payloads, sending a deadly wave of flaming projectiles over the city skyline. Julian and Maeve watch the burning barrage arc directly toward the lower district below. Can Maeve and her allies find a way to shield the defenseless citizens before the fiery barrage incinerates the entire quarantined neighborhood?
