The School Doctor examines Lucas and finds no external wounds, but Lucas suffers severe pain. Lia touches her own scrape. Lucas feels acute pain immediately. Glowing crescent marks appear on both of their wrists.
Reed Butler arrives at the infirmary. He explains that Lucas and Lia share a rare Moon Mark bond. Lucas will absorb any of Lia's physical pain tenfold. The butler says breaking it requires consulting ancient books before the full moon ritual.
Lia gets an alert that her scholarship interview starts in ten minutes. Despite her hurt knee, she steps out of bed. Her movements trigger agonizing pain in Lucas. Reed Butler advises Lucas to follow Lia, so Lucas prepares to go after her.
