Future scenes preview Mia Rossi's dangerous double life before the story cuts to Brooklyn. Cornered by loan sharks over her father's debt, Mia enters Vance Tower with a fake resume. She meets Julian Vance in his penthouse while he cleans blood from his hands. When Julian tests her with an Italian document, Mia quotes mob movies. Julian hires her anyway, later pulling a worn coin from his desk.
A flash-forward introduces Julian Vance and his two-hundred-thousand-dollar translator job. Future clips show Mia bluffing during a high-stakes negotiation, a female socialite outing her at an Upper East Side gala, and Julian trapping Mia inside his penthouse.
Loan sharks hound Mia in Brooklyn because of an unpaid debt left by her father. Needing money quickly, she carries a forged resume through the lobby and steps into the elevator at Vance Tower to interview for the open position.
Mia walks into Julian's penthouse office. Julian cleans blood off his knuckles while talking on the phone, ordering someone to vanish his enemies from New York. He ends the call and addresses Mia directly by her name.
Julian hands Mia an Italian document to test her language skills. Unable to read the text, Mia fakes her way through by reciting lines from classic mafia movies. Enzo listens to her performance and asks if she walked off a movie set.
Julian claps for Mia's creative translation and instructs Marcus to sign her contract immediately. Mia walks out celebrating her new job. Alone in his office, Julian opens a desk drawer and takes out a worn old coin.
“Make them disappear from New York forever.”
“If you want peace, you must be prepared for war.”
“Boss did this girl just wander off the set of The Godfather?”
“A very creative translation. Start tomorrow. Marcus, get her signed.”
“Got you at last.”
Mia leaves the office happy about landing the high-paying job. Behind closed doors, Julian reaches into his desk, pulls out an old coin, and whispers that he finally has her. What connects Julian to Mia, and how long can she keep up the Italian charade before he confronts her about the lie?
