Evelyn wakes up in a hotel room next to an unfamiliar sleeping man. She dresses in a hurry, leaves a signed sketch on the floor, and runs outside. While walking down an alley, one of her drawings drops into a puddle. Julian Shaw stops his car and retrieves it, recognizing her old signature. He offers her a long-term residency in London, urging her to leave behind the people who ruined her life.
Morning sunlight enters the bedroom, shining over ties and cufflinks on the floor. Evelyn wakes up panicked beside a sleeping, bare-chested man. She quickly dresses, gathers her sketches, and leaves behind a signed drawing. The closing door wakes the man.
Evelyn clutches her portfolio as she walks through an alley. One of her sketches slips out and lands in water. A black car pulls up next to her. Julian Shaw exits the vehicle and bends down to pick up the wet paper.
Julian recalls their college days at Avery University design department twenty years ago. Evelyn recognizes him. Julian hands her an invitation to a residency in London. When Evelyn says she has nothing left, Julian tells her she finally left the thieves behind.
“Forget it. Bury this night like another mistake.”
“Who are you?”
“Avery University design department 20 years ago. You always sat in the last row drawing staircases by the window.”
“No, you've just finally left the people who stole your life.”
Julian stands on the street, holding out the residency invitation to Evelyn. She looks back at him while clutching her sketches, feeling as though she has lost everything. Julian waits for her answer. Will Evelyn take this unexpected chance and relocate to London, or will the fallout from her broken marriage keep her tied to the city?
