I just sat down and watched this story unfold, and I have to tell you about it. The setup hits immediately. A powerful pure-blood mage named Kaestra stands in an arena against her stepsister, Gail. Right in the middle of the fight, Kaestra's own familiar, the winged lion Alistair, turns on her and blasts a hole straight through her chest. He shifts into a man, kisses Gail, and tries to drain Kaestra's bloodline. The only creature that steps up to help her is Gail's discarded lizard, Soren. Soren throws himself in front of Gail's blade to protect Kaestra. Dying on the stone floor, Kaestra sacrifices her blood and bones to trigger an explosion that wipes everyone out.
She opens her eyes again on the morning of the Bonding Ceremony. She has returned to the day she chose her familiar. Alistair has his memories too, and he rushes straight toward Gail. Kaestra does not shed a single tear. She publicly rejects the lion and points to the tiny white lizard sleeping in a hanging sphere. Everyone in the courtyard laughs at her. They think she just ruined her entire future as a mage.
Watching her turn the tables is deeply satisfying. Soren is no ordinary lizard. He is the cursed Dragon King, whose race disappeared two centuries ago, and her bond breaks his seal. Betrayed by the Winged Lion, Claimed by the Dragon King Episode Guide
EP 1: A Fatal Betrayal in the Arena
During a duel against Gail, Kaestra is struck through the chest by her own familiar, Alistair. The winged lion turns into a man, professes his love for Gail, and traps Kaestra in magic chains to siphon her pure bloodline. Gail swings a magic sword to finish her. Soren leaps forward, taking the lethal blow for Kaestra. Clutching the dying creature, Kaestra pays with her blood and bones to trigger an explosion. She wakes up on the morning of the familiar selection, staring at Soren inside a hanging crystal orb.
EP 2: The Rejection at the Ceremony
Alistair strides across the academy courtyard toward Gail. The instructor warns that a beast of that rank requires a pure-blood mage and tells Kaestra the lion belongs to her. Alistair shrinks into a cub, jumps into Gail's arms, and snarls that he refuses Kaestra. Recognizing that Alistair has also returned from the past, Kaestra makes her choice without hesitation. Gail begs to keep the lion, and the instructor asks Kaestra to decide. She announces Alistair is not worthy and points up to Soren resting in his orb.
EP 3: Bonding with the Forgotten Lizard
Academy students mock Kaestra for trading a mighty beast for a small lizard. Kaestra recalls how she once used her bloodline to nourish crystals for Alistair, only for Gail to take credit. Gail plays the victim, asking Kaestra not to tear her and Alistair apart. Kaestra ignores the performance, stating that loyalty matters more than raw power. She walks to the pedestal and touches the seal stone. Soren opens his eyes, accepts her offer, and forms a bloodline link that casts a brilliant golden light across the courtyard.
EP 4: The Winged Lion Attacks
The instructor walks away disappointed, while students sneer that Kaestra ruined her talent. Gail approaches with false sweetness. She offers to let Kaestra help train Alistair in exchange for protection during the Crown Trial. Kaestra shuts her down, calling the lion nothing more than discarded trash. Gail bursts into tears to manipulate the crowd. Enraged by the insult, Alistair transforms into a massive dark-winged beast and lunges directly at Kaestra.
EP 5: The Pool in the Mountains
Kaestra strikes Alistair down with her whip. Gail runs to the injured lion and challenges Kaestra to the Crown Trial in one month. Kaestra agrees and carries Soren away to a hidden magic pool. Soren paddles through the water while Kaestra pledges to shield him this time. She wades in to rest. Soren suddenly shines with golden light, sending a pillar of power into the sky. He shifts into a winged man, wraps his arms around her waist, and kisses her in the water.
EP 6: The King's Devotion
Kaestra steps back from the embrace and spots his wings. Soren explains he was never a simple lizard. He is a dragon whose curse could only be broken by a pure-blood mage willingly forming a bond. Kaestra worries about the trial ahead, wondering if he intends to leave now that he is free. She asks if he still wants to be her familiar. Soren pledges his body, soul, and magic to her, confirming he will never break their connection.
EP 7: Flight on Ancient Wings
Standing by the waterfall, Kaestra asks Soren what his true beast form looks like. Purple lightning crackles around him as he transforms into a colossal black dragon. Soren invites her to ride. Kaestra climbs onto his back, and they surge into the sky. High above the valley, she remembers how Alistair once refused to carry her while she was hurt, yet carried Gail over a twisted ankle. Holding Soren's scales, Kaestra vows that every traitor will pay for what they did.
