Claire reports that Noah is asleep, keeping the boy's secret to herself. Rafael hands her a fifty-thousand-dollar check for helping his son eat dinner. He places a family ring on the money and proposes marriage so she will stay. Claire tries to decline because of his dangerous mafia ties. Rafael steps forward, slides the ring onto her finger, and promises he will never force any marital intimacy on her.
Claire informs Rafael that Noah fell asleep without an issue. Rafael asks what she told him. In a quick flashback, Noah begs Claire to protect their private secret. Claire keeps her promise to Noah and refuses to reveal it to Rafael.
Rafael pulls out a fifty-thousand-dollar check as a reward because Claire successfully got Noah to eat dinner. He places the paper in front of her. Then he removes an heirloom family ring and sets it directly on top of the check.
Rafael tells Claire they must marry so she will remain with Noah. Claire worries about the lethal dangers of his mafia world and attempts to say no. Rafael ignores her polite refusal, walks directly to her, and puts the ring on her hand.
Rafael explains that the arrangement is strictly business. He steps closer to mention marital duties, then quietly tells Claire he will never force her. Claire realizes she is married again under ten hours after her divorce, with full freedom of choice.
“That's the first time he's eaten without a fight and gone straight to sleep. What did you say to him?”
“Noah needs you. And I need to know you're not going anywhere. Marriage takes care of that.”
“It's a contract. Nothing more. But if you're going to be my wife, there are things husbands and wives do.”
“I won't force you.”
