Stevie and Lex finish their audition scene with a kiss. Mr. Hamlin compliments their work and offers them both lead parts. An angry competitor objects to the decision. Lex rejects the offer and attempts to leave, but Stevie stops him. She explains that acting on stage fulfills a promise to her late grandmother. Lex reconsiders. He pulls Stevie close, pinches her cheeks, and demands to know what he gets in return.
Stevie and Lex conclude their audition scene with a kiss on stage. Mr. Hamlin praises their acting. He offers both of them the lead roles in the production, but explains that both must agree to join the cast.
A actress approaches Mr. Hamlin in the auditorium seats. She confronts the director about his casting choice. She vents her jealousy and frustration directly to him after watching Stevie and Lex win the parts.
Lex turns his back on the stage and attempts to leave. He refuses to take part in an amateur play. Stevie rushes forward to block his exit, begging him to stay and listen to her reason for acting.
Stevie tells Lex why the role matters to her. She reveals that performing on stage was a promise made to her late grandmother. She asks him to stand beside her and act as her partner.
Lex listens to Stevie's plea and pauses. He asks what he receives in return for joining the production. He pulls Stevie toward him, pinches her cheeks with his fingers, and stares directly at her lips.
“The lead roles are yours, provided both of you agree to do the play.”
“I left Hollywood to get away from all of this, not to get chased around by a bunch of horny theater nerds in an amateur play.”
“Just for once, I wanna know what it feels like to really act.”
“What do I get out of it?”
Lex stops walking away and pulls Stevie close to his chest. He pinches her cheeks and gazes at her lips while asking what he receives in return for doing the play. What will Stevie offer Lex in exchange for his participation, and will the famous movie star actually agree to act alongside her on stage?
