Clara opens her social media feed. She spots Elena's fresh photo of two clasped hands at dawn with a romantic caption. Clara thinks back to past excuses, four previous canceled dates, and past travel receipts from Silas and Elena.
Clara types a direct comment under Elena's photo. She tells her best friend to keep the entire wedding and the groom. Elena scrambles, deletes the uploaded picture in seconds, and blasts Clara's phone with panicked text messages offering explanations.
Clara walks over to the dressing room window and ignores Elena's incoming messages. She reaches out to Silas's chief rival, Adrian. Clara proposes a fresh partnership and offers to deliver her latest research to New York in a week.
“Work trip. We'll have to postpone again. If you can't wait, go ahead without me.”
“Fine. Take the wedding, you can have the groom too.”
“Give me seven days, I'll bring the latest research and join you in New York.”
