Knox pulls up to a bus stop in the rain and insists Tess get into his car. Inside, he hands her a towel and asks her to move into his estate so he can support her. Tess fears he wants her as a mistress. She shares her admission to nursing school, pulls away, and walks out. On the sidewalk, intense nausea hits her, and she decides she must get examined immediately.
Rain pours down on the city street while Tess waits at the bus stop. Knox stops his car and demands that she get inside. Tess tries to turn down the ride, but Knox refuses to take no for an answer.
Knox passes Tess a towel and asks her to live at his estate. Tess worries he wants a mistress. She proudly declines his financial support, announces her university nursing acceptance, breaks free from his grip, and steps out of the car.
Tess walks away along the damp sidewalk, convinced she will never cross paths with Knox again. Suddenly, an intense wave of sickness stops her in her tracks. She clutches herself in discomfort and decides she needs to visit a doctor.
“Move into the Romano Estate. Live with me.”
“You need money, I have it. Let me take care of you.”
“We're from two different worlds. Don't come messing with me.”
“I've been nauseous for days. I need to get checked.”
Tess leaves Knox behind in his car, determined to start fresh in nursing school without his help. Her relief does not last long when severe nausea strikes her on the sidewalk. She realizes she cannot ignore her symptoms anymore. What diagnosis will the doctor deliver when Tess finally goes in for an examination?
