Episode: 3
Leah learns Lucien's name and asks him to marry her on the courtyard steps. Gavin fumes, and Reginald Ashburn angrily disowns Leah. Lucia and her mother mock her as she leaves with Lucien. At his shabby cottage, Leah surprises Lucien by patching his clothes and cooking warm broth. He takes her to a tavern for a grand meal. As Leah worries over the cost, Gavin and Lucia stroll in to taunt her.
Leah asks Lucien for his name and chooses him as her groom. Reginald Ashburn and Gavin shout in anger. Lucia and her mother laugh at her decision. Her grandfather disowns her, so Leah walks away beside Lucien.
Lucien brings Leah inside his battered shack, expecting her to flee. Instead, Leah stays to mend his damaged garments and brew hot broth. Lucien refuses to let her dine on scraps and invites her out for proper food.
Lucien orders a lavish banquet for Leah at a busy tavern. Leah stresses over how they will pay the large bill. Gavin and Lucia suddenly arrive arm-in-arm and start hurling insulting remarks directly at Leah.
“Will you marry me?”
“Marrying a beggar just means a hard life. But Gavin? I'd never forgive myself for living with that kind of humiliation.”
“Fine! If you're so set on it, go! A child weds a beggar brings no value to this family.”
“Leah. How's your first day as a beggar's wife?”
Gavin and Lucia step into the tavern arm-in-arm and corner Leah at her table. Gavin openly mocks her new marriage, asking how her first day as a beggar's wife feels. How will Leah respond to Gavin's taunts, and how will she and Lucien handle the expensive tavern bill?
