Episode: 2
Mia pushes Laila to the pavement outside the police station while onlookers call the child cursed. Vincent Moretti signs a custody waiver, disowns Laila, and drives off, splashing mud onto her. A golden spark floats from Laila to Alaric Voss's SUV. Alaric orders his men to collect Laila to fulfill Carmela's demand for a granddaughter. At the mansion, Alaric drops a sack containing Laila before Carmela and Vittorio.
Mia shoves Laila away outside the station and says she is their father's only real daughter. People standing nearby whisper rumors about Laila. They accuse the five-year-old of being a jinx who caused her own grandmother to drown.
Vincent hands a signed custody waiver to the female police officer and refuses responsibility for Laila. Mia stomps on Laila's boots. The Morettis climb into their car and drive away, splashing dirty road water across Laila as she sits alone.
Laila sits on the wet ground in tears, hugging her mother's urn tightly against her chest. A bright golden spark suddenly rises from Laila's body. The magical light glides through the air and enters a passing vehicle belonging to Alaric Voss.
A memory flashes of Carmela shouting over a phone call, demanding that Alaric bring her a granddaughter. Alaric watches Vincent leave Laila behind. He directs his guards to bring the girl inside his SUV and offers to become her new father.
Inside the Voss family residence, Carmela complains to Vittorio about her deep desire for a grandchild. Alaric walks into the room carrying a tied black sack. He drops the bundle directly onto the floor in front of his stunned parents.
Carmela reaches down and unties the dark sack resting on the rug. Laila emerges from inside, still holding tightly onto her mother's urn. Looking up at Carmela, the polite five-year-old speaks up and greets the older woman as her grandmother.
“The Morettis will never claim a curse who killed her own blood!”
“Steal or kidnap, you bring me home a granddaughter, or I swear I will burn down your casino and docks tonight!”
“Tell Vincent. This child... I, Alaric Voss, have claimed her.”
“Grandma... good evening.”
The episode closes inside the mansion as Carmela unties the black bundle on the floor. Five-year-old Laila pops out, holds her mother's ashes against her chest, and greets Carmela as her grandmother. How will the Voss family react to this surprise arrival, and will Carmela accept Laila as her own granddaughter?
