Episode: 4
Diana sits in an auction box drinking wine with her companions. They bet on whether Bruce can arrive before a candle burns down. Bruce runs in breathless, and Diana collects her bet before leaving. Bruce confronts her friends about the cruel summons. He remembers a dying King John begging him to guard the realm. Bruce realizes only two days remain on his twenty-year oath, so he lets the insult go.
Diana sits in a private box at the auction house with her female elf companions. They drink wine and laugh together. The group wagers on whether Bruce will make it inside before a single candle finishes burning down.
Bruce bursts through the doorway gasping for air. Diana smiles at her companions and announces that she won the bet. She instructs the other elves to deliver the prize money directly to the royal palace, then walks out of the room.
Bruce stops the remaining elf companions and expresses his anger. He asks why they summoned him across a great distance just for a game. The elves shrug off his frustration and tell him he must obey whenever Queen Diana summons him.
Bruce remembers the aftermath of his battle against a god. The dying Elf King, John, lies before him and praises Bruce as the strongest mage alive. John begs Bruce to watch over and protect the Elves after he passes away.
Bruce clenches his hand into a tight fist in the private box. He reminds himself that his twenty-year vow to John is almost over. With only two days left on his oath, he decides not to pick a fight with Diana.
“You lost. Don't forget to send the winnings to the palace.”
“You had me rush all the way over here for a bet?”
“Master, even a god isn't your match. You really are the strongest mage in existence. I think I'm going to die. Please, after I'm gone, protect the Elves.”
“I promised John I'd protect the Elves for twenty years. There are only two days left. Forget it, just two more days. It's not worth arguing with her.”
Bruce suppresses his fury and stands alone in the auction box. He resolves to endure the disrespect for just two more days until his twenty-year oath to the late King John is completely fulfilled. Will Bruce finally abandon Diana and walk away from the Elves once his sacred promise expires?
