Episode: 1
Gideon Rusk and his new girlfriend wreck Tamsin Reed's food truck, berate her, and push her to the ground on divorce day. As Tamsin walks away, she catches three masked men kidnapping young Iver into a van. She hurls a gas canister, fights off the kidnappers, and feeds the boy with her last dollars. Soon after, mafia don Dashiell Veyr arrives, offering to make Tamsin his son's stepmother.
Gideon Rusk arrives with his new girlfriend outside Tamsin's food truck on the day of their divorce. He hurls insults about her weight and smell, trashes her equipment, throws food directly at her, and shoves her onto the ground.
Tamsin walks down a city street with her luggage and notices three masked men dragging Iver into a van. She throws a heavy gas canister at the vehicle, physically fights off all three abductors, and pulls the boy to safety.
Iver cries and explains that he is hungry. Tamsin takes her remaining six dollars into a grocery store to buy bread and sausage. Sitting together by the curb, she prepares a fresh sandwich and feeds it to him.
A convoy of luxury cars pulls up outside Tamsin's apartment building. Iver runs forward to embrace her and calls her his mom. Dashiell Veyr arrives in a wheelchair, offering to hire Tamsin as Iver's stepmother for any amount of money.
In a flash forward, Gideon mocks Tamsin at a fruit stall for working as a nanny. Iver defends her against the insults. Dashiell then walks up on his own two feet with armed guards to face Gideon directly.
“Loud, rude, and you smell like a deep fryer.”
“Dad, I found my mom!”
“My son only eats what you make. Be his stepmother. Name your price.”
“Who says she's useless?”
Dashiell offers Tamsin blank-check terms to become his son's stepmother, followed by a glimpse of the wheelchair-bound boss walking toward an astonished Gideon. Will Tamsin accept the mafia leader's proposal to care for Iver, and what is the real story behind Dashiell hiding his ability to walk?
