In his attic, Kane refuses Malkorth's offer to unleash dragon power against the bullies. He trims his bangs in the mirror and leaves the dragon behind. At the academy plaza, an official declares the combat trial open. Darren brings supplies and teams up with Kane. The crowd jeers at their low ranks, and Derek Raymond predicts Kane will die. Unshaken, Kane and Darren touch the glowing portal to enter the trial forest.
Malkorth urges Kane to unleash his true form to destroy his tormentors. Kane rejects the offer. Standing before the mirror, Kane cuts his own bangs, tells the dragon to stay home, and resolves to tackle the trial alone.
An academy official in red and black robes announces the rules in the central plaza. Students must gather magic crystals and survive. Darren Lester arrives with packed supplies and officially partners with Kane for the combat trial.
Classmates gather to mock Kane and Darren as a pair of failures. Derek Raymond steps forward with his female teammate. Derek insults Kane's lack of power and says wild beasts will soon tear Kane to pieces in the woods.
Derek and his partner step through the glowing beam first. Darren offers Kane quiet words of encouragement beside the entrance. Both boys reach out their hands together and touch the shimmering barrier to step into the trial grounds.
“Release my true form, and your power could wipe them out in an instant.”
“The magic forest combat trial starts now! The rules are simple: collect magic crystals and survive until time runs out. Whoever collects the most wins.”
“I admire your courage in coming here to die. I hope the beasts enjoy gnawing on your bones.”
Kane and Darren stand before the massive glowing portal leading into the Magic Forest. Ignoring the crowd's mockery, they raise their hands and touch the barrier to cross over. Will their low ranks and basic equipment be enough to survive the deadly beasts and rival students lurking inside the trial grounds?
