Emma waits alone in the rain outside Building D until Ethan drives up and makes her enter his vehicle. As he drives, Ethan asks why she deserted him five years earlier. A flashback depicts Emma kneeling on a hospital floor while Mrs. Reed scolds her. In the car, Emma conceals this reality and claims she departed for cash. Devastated, Ethan reacts bitterly, and when Emma asks to exit, he suddenly grips her wrist.
Emma stands by herself in the downpour outside Building D. Ethan arrives in his automobile, rolls up to the curb, and firmly directs her to get inside. She steps out of the storm and into the passenger seat.
Ethan navigates the road and questions Emma about leaving five years ago. A memory shows Emma kneeling before Mrs. Reed in the hospital hallway under heavy blame. Back in the car, Emma coldly answers that she chose to leave for money.
Emma tells Ethan to pull the vehicle over so she can travel home alone. Ethan brings the car to a halt. Instead of letting her step out into the night, he reaches across and suddenly clamps his hand onto her wrist.
“Why did you leave five years ago?”
“Because of money. I needed money.”
“So while I was fighting for my life you left for two million? You just left?”
Ethan brings the car to a sudden halt and forcefully clamps his hand around Emma's wrist. He stares directly into her eyes with intense pain and anger, refusing to release his hold. Will Ethan uncover the real truth about his mother, or will Emma maintain this painful lie?
