Episode: 2
After leaving the concert venue, Nina walks through the freezing night and remembers how Chloe gradually took over her belongings, vacations, and concert plans. Nina drinks a beer on a riverside bench in tears. Adrian texts her, demanding she go buy warm milk tea for Chloe. Remembering seven years together and the unequal gifts Adrian bought, Nina ignores the message. She crushes her empty beer can and hails a cab home.
Nina flashes back to past incidents with Chloe. She remembers Chloe taking her cashmere coat and redirecting an anniversary getaway into an island trip for herself. She also pictures Adrian embracing Chloe after taking her Valentine's Day concert seat.
Nina walks through the cold streets by herself. She stops at a convenience store to purchase a single can of beer. Carrying the drink over to a bench beside the river, she sits in the dark and cries while drinking.
Nina sits on the riverside bench when her phone screen illuminates with a text from Adrian. He asks if she got into the venue and instructs her to buy warm milk tea for Chloe. Nina stares at the screen and leaves it unanswered.
Staring at the river's reflection, Nina thinks about their seven-year relationship and three-year marriage. She remembers Adrian purchasing designer clothes and a laptop for Chloe. In contrast, he handed Nina a cheap, discounted scarf for her own birthday.
Standing up by the river, Nina crushes the metal beer can tightly in her hand. She walks up to the roadside, flags down an approaching taxi, and tells the driver to take her back to Northvale Residences.
“Did you get in? I don't see you? Chloe wants milk tea. Go buy two cups at the shop outside the venue. Warm, please. Her stomach is sensitive.”
“You're married. Why do you need to dress up? Better to save the money and sign Chloe up for piano lessons.”
“To Northvale Residences.”
Nina gets into the back of the taxi and directs the driver to Northvale Residences with a cold, determined expression on her face. She has ignored Adrian's text and walked away from the arena. How will Adrian react when he gets home and discovers that Nina never bought Chloe's tea or entered the venue?
