Hooked up to an IV at the hospital, Nina gets a phone call from Adrian. He demands money so Chloe can treat coworkers to drinks. Despite intense stomach pain, Nina refuses to pay and ends the call when he calls her petty. Her drip ends at nine o'clock. She removes her needle and walks through the cold streets. At home, Nina enters the empty guest room and sees Adrian drinking beside Chloe online.
Adrian calls from outside a bar to demand financial help for Chloe's gathering. Nina sits hooked to an IV drip, dealing with severe stomach pain. When Adrian angrily labels her petty, she stands her ground and hangs up on him.
The clock hits nine in the evening as Nina's IV bag empties. She pulls the needle straight out of her arm herself. After pulling on her jacket, she steps out of the clinic and walks through the freezing night alone.
Nina returns to a dark, silent house and heads straight into the guest bedroom. She lies down on the bed and checks her phone. A social media post features Adrian drinking and watching Chloe with a tender look at the bar.
“I'm not obligated to support your precious student.”
“Nina, do you really have to be this petty right now?”
“If she feels bad, then go be with her. Don't bother me.”
Nina lies alone on the guest room mattress in the dark, staring at the picture of Adrian tenderly watching Chloe at the pub. She has endured the hospital visit without any care from her husband. How much longer will Nina tolerate Adrian's behavior before she takes action to end this marriage?
