During the night, someone rattles Lucia's locked bedroom door. At breakfast, she mentions it, making Margaret drop her silverware. Richard Sterling brushes it off as a bad dream and holds Margaret's hand. He then presents the au pair contract. Lucia spots his shoes and realizes he was the one outside her room. She pulls back, but Richard places a medical check on the paper. Desperate to help her sick father, Lucia signs.
In the middle of the night, a figure stands outside Lucia's bedroom and jiggles the locked doorknob. Lucia freezes in bed and clutches her blanket tightly while listening to the person right on the other side.
Lucia joins Richard Sterling and Margaret for breakfast and brings up the rattling doorknob. Margaret drops her cutlery in shock. Richard quickly dismisses the incident as jet lag, grips Margaret's hand firmly, and claims the house is safe.
Richard hands Lucia the VSA Au Pair Program Contract to sign. As she reaches for the pen, she spots Richard's dress shoes and recognizes them from outside her room. She pulls her hand back, but Richard grips her wrist.
Richard places a check across the paperwork and brings up her dying father. Remembering her father in the hospital bed, Lucia breaks down and signs her name. Richard strokes her head and welcomes her to the family.
“I... I think I dreamed someone was twisting my doorknob.”
“Lucia, your father's condition can't wait much longer.. Sign it. Your dad can live.”
“Dad... I'll do anything to save you.”
“Remember, from now on, you're family.”
Lucia tearfully signs the au pair contract after Richard places the funds for her father on the table. Richard smiles, caresses her head, and welcomes her into the family. Now that Lucia is legally bound to Richard and trapped in his home, how far will his control over her go?
