    Emily steps into the living room holding her old suitcase. Lily embraces her with enthusiasm, then quietly whispers a threat into her ear. Richard offers a stiff welcome home. Catherine commands Mary to take Emily upstairs to the servants' quarters.

    Lily playfully requests a Tiffany's necklace for a charity gala. Richard immediately signs a check and hands it over. When Emily heads toward the stairs, Lily acts upset and complains that Emily is cold toward her. Catherine quickly comforts Lily.

    Mary guides Emily into a bare, rundown bedroom on the second floor. Emily sets her luggage on the floor. She peers through the cracked window glass and watches Lily twirl with joy across the blooming estate garden below.
