Guards stop Kane in the castle hallway with the Dragon Emperor's Staff. Kane admits he stole the weapon, so soldiers march him to the grand council. The Patriarch and elders inspect the awakened relic. An elder with grey hair moves to strip the siblings of their inherited dragon blood. Layla rushes inside to defend her brother. A young blond noble proposes an arena match for the bloodline, and Kane accepts the challenge.
Guards confront Kane in the castle corridor while he carries the Dragon Emperor's Staff. Kane tells them directly that he took the relic. The soldiers place him under arrest and march him away to face the family leadership.
The Patriarch and clan elders gather in the council hall to discuss the awakened staff. A soldier brings Kane inside and hands the scepter over to the leaders, reporting that Kane had the weapon in his hands.
A grey-haired elder in a fur cloak scolds Kane for taking the sacred staff. The elder demands the removal of Kane and Layla's dragon-kin bloodline. Layla runs into the council chamber and stands beside her brother.
An arrogant blond noble steps forward to insult Kane in front of the gathered elders. He offers a wager and challenges Kane to an arena fight. The winner of the duel will claim the family dragon-kin blood.
Layla urges Kane not to take the fight, but Kane agrees to the arena duel anyway. The Patriarch listens and officially rules that clan law permits the contest to settle the fate of their dragon bloodline.
“Why do you have the Dragon Emperor's Staff?”
“I took it.”
“I'm saying that if neither of you is worthy of inheriting dragon-kin power, then you shouldn't continue holding the dragon-kin blood.”
“The arena. You fight me. Winner takes the dragon-kin blood.”
“Save those words for yourself. I won't let anyone take what Father left us.”
The Patriarch officially authorizes the arena trial under clan law to settle the bloodline dispute. Kane stares back at the blond noble and refuses to surrender his father's legacy. How will Kane survive an arena battle against a pure-blood dragon-kin when he still lacks a bonded dragon of his own?
