Derek orders his dragon, Pylos, to burn Kane alive. On the balcony, Layla begs her cousin to step in, but arena rules prevent outside interference. Kane looks into the dragon's eyes and speaks its name. Pylos puts out its fire and bows submissively to Kane's touch. When an enraged Derek curses the beast, Pylos knocks Derek to the floor. As Kane strokes the dragon, deep tremors shake the stadium and the lava trench erupts.
Derek triggers his red dragon crest in the arena. He yells at his bonded dragon, Pylos, to release all of its flames. He commands the beast to incinerate Kane on the spot and take his dragon-kin bloodline.
Layla begs her armored cousin on the spectator balcony to jump in and protect Kane from the beast. Her cousin touches the glowing barrier between them and the arena floor. He reminds Layla that match rules forbid any outside help.
Kane stands his ground and looks straight into the eyes of Pylos. He calls the dragon by its name. Pylos puts out its fire, bows its massive head to the arena floor, and lets Kane gently rub its snout.
Derek loses his temper when his dragon ignores his direct order. He screams insults and swears at Pylos. The dragon snaps around, strikes Derek with sudden force, and sends its own rider crashing hard onto the stone floor.
Layla, her armored cousin, the family elders, and the crowd stare from the balcony in disbelief. They watch the bonded dragon reject its master. The beast stands quietly before Kane, yielding completely to the presence of his soul.
Kane continues to stroke the calm red dragon. Heavy tremors suddenly shake the entire colosseum, rippling the water inside a spectator's goblet. Around the ring, the deep lava trench cracks open and shoots violent bursts of fire into the air.
“Cousin, please! You have to save Kane! That dragon's going to tear him apart!”
“That's a good boy.”
“Useless piece of crap! Fight, damn it!”
“This boy's soul... it actually made a high rank dragon submit on its own.”
Kane strokes the subdued dragon while Derek lies defeated on the stone floor. Tremors suddenly rock the entire stadium, and towering plumes of fire erupt from the surrounding lava trench. The arena shakes to its core. What massive creature is waking up beneath the colosseum floor, and what will it do when it surfaces?
